Why Choose Pelkhil?
While good education has been identified as the key to a bright future, the method of delivering good quality education is not so clear. Pelkhil aims to achieve the goal of good education by identifying key problem areas and providing specific means to solving them. Through a combination of initiatives and focus in the following areas, we are confident that you will find excellent value in the education that we aspire to provide your children:
Teacher Quality
Quality education cannot be achieved without quality teaching. Pelkhil will provide the best teachers the market can sustain. It is hoped that with careful screening, qualified teachers passionate about teaching can be employed. To ensure this, attractive salaries will be offered. Combining this incentive with the provision of an academic environment in which teachers themselves are encouraged to excel, we are confident that Pelkhil will be able to impart quality education in every sense of the word.
Class Size
Good teachers find it difficult to deliver quality if the student load in the classroom is overwhelming. The average class size at Pelkhil will not exceed 26 students even though international norms often far surpass this. A small class size is critical to ensuring that teachers provide individual attention to the individual problems of the students.
Wholesome Education
While this is an often-quoted concept, it is not often seen on the ground. Pelkhil will offer opportunities for students to expend their excess energy and creativity in activities outside of the classroom.
To keep the promise of small class-sizes, 24 large classrooms will be made available to accommodate all the students comfortably. Full-sized science labs with preparation rooms will be provided along with a full-fledged computer lab. Modern toilet facilities will be provided separately for boys, girls and staff, located conveniently in the main block. Space for a large Library will be provided with the plan to gradually build up the library's holdings. To supplement the library and to encourage self-learning through research, a broadband internet centre will also be provided.
The large central paved courtyard will serve as a place of assembly, informal games as well as performances.
More than 3 acres of land have been allocated for sporting activities such as football, basketball and volleyball with many more facilities to be added.
To inculcate a sense of self-discipline judo, a safe and internationally recognized martial art will also be offered. A full size judo dojo measuring 2500 sft is under construction for this purpose. With luck, Pelkhil will be able to recruit a qualified instructor from Japan.
A full fledged dance and music studio measuring 2500 sft will be provided to more seriously encourage students to experiment with the fine arts. A separate art studio will also be provided with instruction by professional local artists. In addition, Pelkhil will offer other club activities that are less capital intensive such as journalism, debating, elocution and yearbook club to name a few.
Other important facilities will include a teacher's work centre, principal's office, administrative office and conference hall.
Under Phase II of the campus plan, much more infrastructure will be added to augment Pelkhil facilities.
Day Boarding (Extended Supervision)
A recognized cause of delinquency among teenagers is the extended periods of time that students are left unsupervised. This happens by default when students are released from school before their parents return from work everyday. This basic problem will be addressed directly by day boarding as the program will keep students occupied and supervised until 5pm daily.
Day boarding is thus a required Pelkhil program where the students will, on a daily basis, participate in additional activities such as sports and hobbies of their choice under teacher supervision. Moreover, students falling behind in their class work can also use this time for extra tutorials to catch up.
In a nutshell, day boarding will limit the daily parental duty to one drop-off in the morning and one pick-up in the evening, without the need for any further concern about the all-round educational needs of the children. Pelkhil will take care of that. You can rest assured that in addition to academics, your children will enjoy all-round development on the sports field (football, basketball, volleyball) and in the arts (music, art, dance, dramatics and elocution). No more scurrying around town after school hours arranging these activities in a piecemeal and tiresome way.
Long Term View
The more profitable and shorter term choice would be to merely function as a 'higher secondary' school focusing only on classes 11 and 12. And why not? After all this is the proven market segment, more or less guaranteed to succeed. The longer term view however, a view shared by true educationists, would recognize that it is difficult or at least more difficult to take in students with very poor academic foundations and turn them into academic wonders within two years. It is for this reason that Pelkhil aims to catch students while they are still young and academically "fixable", from grade 7, despite the potential lack of profitability. In the long term we believe this will serve the best interests of all concerned.
